
For more than a decade, Joby has worked with defense and intelligence customers. That work has given the U.S. Government a front-row seat to an emerging technology class and helped position the United States as the global leader in the eVTOL industry.
Today, we announced that Joby has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Resonant Sciences, a rapidly growing defense technology company based in Dayton, Ohio, that will significantly expand our defense work, but what makes me most excited is something less easily captured in a press release: the extraordinary alignment between our teams, and what that will allow us to build together.
To Micah and the team at Resonant: we are honored to welcome you and excited to build the next generation of aerospace together.
Over the last three years, our companies have worked together on the design and development of next-generation aircraft. Through that work, I’ve gotten to know Micah North, Resonant’s Co-Founder and CEO, well, and it’s clear that we’re built from the same founder DNA. We share a passion for deep technical innovation and a bias toward solving hard problems from first principles.
Both of our companies are also deeply vertically integrated, a differentiator we believe is fundamental to building breakthrough technology. Vertical integration is sometimes described simply as a way of organizing a company.
For us, it is much more than that. It is a way of thinking. When the people designing a system work alongside the people building, testing and operating it, the feedback loops become faster. Problems are found earlier. Teams develop a deeper understanding of how every decision affects the whole. And, most importantly, no one is waiting for somebody else to solve the hardest problem.

Introducing Resonant Sciences
If you are unfamiliar with Resonant as a defense innovator, that is perhaps how it should be, because they’re a company that specializes in low observability.
Their team of 250 deeply technical experts develops technologies that help aircraft see, communicate and operate more safely in difficult environments, while remaining unseen themselves. Their sensors and antennas gather information, send and receive secure signals, and protect communications from interference. Alongside those systems, Resonant is a global leader in low-observability design, with expertise ranging from individual structures and subsystems to complete aircraft.
The breadth of that work is impressive. So is the way the team has built the company: patiently earning the trust of customers, developing deep technical expertise and bringing design, engineering, testing and production together. Resonant has built classified infrastructure, qualified products, established production operations and longstanding customer relationships. Those capabilities take years to build.
Following closing, Resonant will continue to operate under the Resonant Sciences name, led by Micah. It will become Joby’s dedicated defense business, continuing to grow its existing dual use programs while leading the application of Joby’s aircraft, propulsion and autonomy technologies to defense missions.

Creating Value Together
For Resonant’s existing customers, our commitment is straightforward. Resonant will continue to be a best-in-class supplier, delivering its existing programs with the same technical excellence and close partnership they have come to expect.
But we believe we can offer those customers even greater value. The acquisition will bring Joby’s expertise in aircraft, propulsion and autonomy together with Resonant’s classified infrastructure, qualified products, established production operations and longstanding customer relationships. That will allow us to develop integrated solutions and pursue opportunities that neither company could address alone.
Housing our defense work within Resonant will create a clear home for those initiatives and allow our wider commercial aviation organization to stay focused on certifying, manufacturing and commercializing our electric air taxi.
We remain absolutely committed to our vision of making quiet and emissions-free flight an everyday reality and our recent Q2 2026 Shareholder Letter explains the incredible progress we’re making towards that goal. What will change is the breadth of technology available to our teams and the scale at which we can build and deliver.

Deepening Our Commitment to Ohio
There is also an important geographical connection between our teams. I was first introduced to Micah and the team at Resonant Sciences by our close friends at JobsOhio, when we were evaluating potential expansion locations. JobsOhio was instrumental in our decision to make Dayton our second home, and we have already secured more than 700,000 square feet of facilities there.
This transaction will significantly deepen our commitment to the region. Together, the combined company will have approximately one million square feet of manufacturing, integration and testing space across the Dayton region, establishing a major hub for advanced aviation and defense technology in one of the deepest aerospace talent pools in the country.
We expect that presence to attract even more top-tier aerospace talent and industry partners to the region, while supporting the reindustrialization of Ohio and the continued growth of American aerospace manufacturing. More than the square footage, though, it creates a place where ambitious teams can work side by side across disciplines, moving quickly from an idea to something that has been built, tested and proven.
The Spirit of Innovation
To Micah and everyone at Resonant: we have enormous respect for what you have built. We look forward to welcoming you to Joby following closing, and we are incredibly excited about what our teams can achieve together.
The team at Resonant builds their technology just a few miles from the bicycle shop where the Wright brothers began the work that made powered flight possible. The Wright brothers succeeded because they refused to believe that it couldn’t be done. In doing so, they revolutionized the way we live and travel. More than a century later, that same conviction is still alive in Dayton and across both of our teams.
Together, we have an opportunity to build the next generation of aerospace - both in commercial aviation and in service of our national security. And we couldn’t be more excited.
