As we prepare for the commercial launch of our air taxi service, Joby continues to focus on making a positive impact on the communities and environment where we operate. As we continued with our flight test campaign in the US, we also expanded our manufacturing footprint in Ohio, flew demonstration flights in Japan, and conducted initial test flights in Dubai. In addition to giving us the opportunity to showcase our quiet, electric aircraft across several anticipated launch markets, this activity also laid the groundwork for significant new job creation, focused on high-value manufacturing roles in the U.S.
Today, we're publishing our 2025 Impact Report. Here's a summary of what's inside.
Preparing For Commercial Operations
In 2025, Joby completed more than 850 flights across five aircraft, a 2.6x increase over the prior year. We became the first electric air taxi company to conduct routine pilot-inhabited transition flights, flying the full envelope from vertical takeoff through wingborne cruise to landing with a pilot onboard. We also flew internationally, including 41 flights at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan, and initial flight test operations in Dubai, UAE. Each flight built the technical record and the regulatory relationships that commercial service will require, and demonstrated the maturity of our design.
Beyond our work in the communities where we operate, 2025 was also a year of significant commercial progress.
- Announced a partnership with Virgin Atlantic to launch air taxi services in the UK, pairing our aircraft with one of the world's most recognized aviation brands.
- Acquired Blade Air Mobility's passenger business, expanding our commercial footprint and building on the operational experience Blade brings to the table.
- On the regulatory front, we advanced our qualification work with the UAE's General Civil Aviation Authority following our initial flight test operations in Dubai
- Participated in the U.S. Department of Transportation's Advanced Air Mobility national roadmap announcement in Washington, DC, helping shape the federal framework that commercial operations will depend on.
Safety
Some of the most important progress from 2025 is reflected in the safety culture Joby is building, one report, one corrective action, and one team member at a time.
Joby formally implemented the FAA's Aviation Safety Action Program in 2025, one of the few Part 135 operators to do so voluntarily, ahead of the FAA's required 2027 deadline. The program encourages our team to report safety issues without fear of penalty, helping us identify risks earlier and shape how industry safety regulations develop.
Within the company, injuries and days away from work both fell by 20% compared to 2024 and by more than 50% compared to 2023. This trend was enabled by 1,158 safety inspections. We also expanded our Safety Management System to meet the regulatory requirements of the UK and UAE, building the global architecture that commercial operations across multiple countries will require.
People and Community
To transform the future of flight, we need great people. In 2025, Joby grew to more than 2,500 team members globally, and we invested in developing our talent at every level:
- Expanded our Advanced Manufacturing Apprenticeship Program to 50 apprentices trained in airframe assembly and manufacturing
- Received FAA approval for Joby Academy’s Light Sport Repairman certificate program, one of only four active programs in the country, and graduated more than 20 people in 2025
- Opened Joby Academy to the public and enrolled over 280 people in Private Pilot Ground School
- Developed our North Star Leadership Framework to strengthen leadership development company-wide
Across our launch communities, thousands of people in Los Angeles, New York, Dayton, Japan, and Dubai got an up-close look at our aircraft in 2025, through flight demonstrations, simulators, and full-scale models, and began to imagine a different future for their city.
Environment
We plan to provide a clean mobility service that can transform the impact of today’s urban commutes. For example, on a representative 41-mile drive across Los Angeles, we estimate that our aircraft would generate 47% fewer emissions per passenger-mile than a gas-powered car and 94% fewer emissions than a helicopter. This analysis is based on operational data from hundreds of flight test maneuvers to model the impact of future operations. A more sustainable future also means reducing the footprint of our own operations. Some of our 2025 wins include:
- 97% of electricity at Joby’s primary facilities came from renewable sources, up from 84% in 2024
- Avoided over 5,100 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions over the past three years through our renewable electricity commitment, equivalent to powering more than 1,060 homes for a year
- Restored the solar system at our Santa Cruz headquarters, doubling daily output to over 3,000 kWh, enough to cover roughly 59% of the facility's average daily need
- Diverted over 104,000 pounds of manufacturing material from landfill through recycling programs
We are not just building an aircraft; we are building the standard to which this industry will be held. The 2025 Impact Report is now available here.
